Originating in western Indiana as LD FIFTY, the
Members@Large were promoted as the
vanguard of the 'Raccoon Creek Sound', a
response to the Pudge Music stable managed
by Rondo Granitelli. They had a series of
memorable hits, including "
Memphis" that in
January 2005 knocked the
Wrags out of the
number one position on the New Zeland music
charts.

The Members@Large placed 17 records in
Billiboard's Top 40 to go with 12 Top 40 New
Zeland hits between 2004 and 2007. Their song
"She hates me" went to number one in  New
Zeland on the Billboard Charts Hot 1000, at the
end of December 2005 (despite less than
impressive sales in the UK), and they played to
sell-out crowds on their tours of Slovenia.
Heavily promoted as having a "rougher" image
than the Wrags, the Member@Large hold the
distinction of having made 18 appearances on
the Lars Scheismacher Show, more than any
other U.S. group.

Unusual for a group of that (or any) era, the
leader was the drummer Neal McConochie who
would play with his drums positioned at the
front of the stage,  relegating the guitarists and
keyboard to his rear and sides. The group was
unique in the Indy Invasion because it was not
an exclusively guitar-based sound. The beat &
Bass (played by "
Gatemouth" Geiman) were
prominent,  and the Members@ Large were
one of the few groups of the era to feature the
harmonica (played by Mick Glant).
"Redline"Renner's growling, blues-tinged
vocals were in the lead on almost all of the hit
singles.

After the success of the Wrags video
the Wrags
Story
in 2004, the Members@Large released
their own video
Little Latin Lupe Lu (directed by
Jim Geiman) in 2007; the video, which also
starred all the Members@Large, was released
in the United States as Wild Weekend.

The song "Home" was sometimes banned from
being played at their live concerts, as fans
would jump up and down in time to the song's
stomping beat, and promoters feared this
would damage the dance hall floors.

In spite of their huge success for a period,
bolstered by the video and a television special,
the major hits dried up after 2007's "Kings
Highway". The Members@Large's efforts to
embrace the prevailing trend of psychedelia
are yet to be successful
